Millennium Reports

New Years Eve Party

Geoff Adderley writes:
The general planning for the H2K New Years Eve party started over two years ago when the Millennium group was first formed. Detailed arrangements were made early in 1999.

The large village hall was decorated to a very high standard and with all the eating and seating taking place in the marquees, there was room for the 180 guests to dance the night away to the excellent "Splinter Group" - lead singer Gene Tavener.

Three pigs were roasted on the spit together with the other festive fare, supplied as usual by people from the village, made a fine last meal of 1999.

Midnight came and Champagne and Auld Lang Syne saw us enter the new Millennium; we then went out into the night for the firework display. This was a really good show as many in the village saw. We were very pleased to see families, even though not at the party, turn up to witness the celebrations.

The band restarted and revelries continued well into the year 2000.

We as a committee would like to thank all of you who helped make this event such a success.

Children's Party

Pauline Foster writes:
Some of the funds raised by the Hurst Millennium group were enjoyed by many young children who live in the village. Mr Wizard, the entertainer, joined the children on 2nd January in the large village hall for disco dancing, games and magic. The children paused for tea-time treats at 4.00 p.m. Mr Wizard then continued until 6.00 p.m. when rested parents collected tired but happy children.

An urgent plea from the Air Scouts

In the last newsletter we ran an article on the work of the Air Scouts, Cubs and Beavers.

Unless they can quickly find volunteers to help with the activities there is a real danger that they will have to fold.

If you are able to help on:
  Mondays 7.00 - 9.00 p.m. (Air Scouts aged 10 to 15),
Tuesdays 5.15 - 6.00 p.m. (Beavers aged 6 to 8) or
Wednesdays 6.45 - 8.15 p.m. (Cubs aged 8 - 10)
please contact Cathy Lochman on 934 xxxx. The only "qualifications" you need are to be over 18 years old and willing to give young people a chance to enjoy themselves in a controlled and constructive environment.
