ST. NICHOLAS HURST PARISH COUNCIL NEWS

Chairman Jan Martin writes...

JacVan continues to visit

The Parish Council is continuing its work with the young people of Hurst by supporting the Jac Van visits to the village. Sam Milligan, the leader of the youth project, will bring the Jac Van into the village every other Wednesday from 26 September. This will enable young people to meet and spend time together in a constructive way.

This follows the summer holiday visits of the Jac Van, which varied between afternoon and evening times and had a fair response, although some were poorly supported.

Skateboard Park

The lobby for a skateboard park facility within the Hurst/Winnersh boundaries is ongoing. Wokingham District Council has just sent out a Wheeling Facilities questionnaire as part of their appraisal to determine the need for such facilities within the area. We await their recommendations, but in the meantime we are busy looking at ways to finance this venture along with the much-requested Youth Shelter.

Vandals

On a more sombre note, several acts of vandalism have been reported to us and on Wednesday 19 September the police witnessed an incident involving the damage to one of the picnic tables in the School Road playing field. Five youths are helping police with their enquiries and the Parish Council has laid a formal complaint.

As a community we must not tolerate crime and if anyone has anything to report please call the police on 0118 953 xxxx or if a crime is taking place dial 999.

We are doing our best to listen and accommodate the young people of Hurst and they, in turn, have a responsibility to their community.
