Golden Jubilee Celebrations
People will be celebrating the Queen's Golden Jubilee in many different ways - here are some that are happening here in June.
Golden Jubilee Ball at the Village Hall on Saturday 1 June
This will replace the annual May Ball and will be a black tie event with top class entertainment by Pete & Hugh, and a sumptuous dinner.
Numbers are limited so book early by calling John Edwards on 0118 934 xxxx or John Penney on 0118 934 xxxx. Tickets are priced at £20. Profits from this event will fund the children's party and the poetry prizes.
Children's Party on the Village Green, Bank Holiday Monday 3 June
A traditional tea party, with professional entertainers and games for the children will be held on the Green at Martineau Lane. Small children must be supervised. Each child will receive a Jubilee memento. Tickets are £1 and available from Caroline Speer on 0118 934 xxxx.
Church Service
Hymns from the Coronation will be sung at the non-denominational service on Sunday 2 June at 11am in St. Nicholas Church. This special service replaces the usual Eucharist, and will be a thanksgiving for the Queen.
Children's Poetry competition
St. Nicholas Hurst Primary School has submitted three entries for a National Poetry competition. The entries were from Katie Kingham, aged 10, Lewis Elliot, aged 10 and James Francis, aged 8. Prizes will be awarded to these three.
Hurst Beacon
We are investigating the possibility of building a beacon to be lit along with over 900 across the country on the Bank Holiday Monday evening. Details will be available nearer the time.
Any additional ideas or offers of help will be welcomed. Contact John Edwards on 0118 934 xxxx.
