'Future Living' Eco-Showcase Could be Located at Dinton Pastures

Wokingham District Council has submitted an application for outline planning permission for a Future Living Centre at Dinton Pastures Country Park writes Chas Bradfield, Environmental Health Manager.

We would like to create a facility for schools and everyone in the community to learn about how they can contribute to sustainable development, including eco-friendly paint and using solar energy in the home.

The Future Living Centre will replace existing inadequate educational facilities at Dinton Pastures, on Davis Street. It will be a showcase for innovative ways of living, and demonstrate how people can make a difference to benefit the global environment.

The application was submitted at the end of May and is likely to go to the Development Control committee in August. If the outline permission is granted we will begin detailed work on the project to design a building, which will be as sustainable and as 'environmentally friendly' as possible, and landscaping which will improve bio-diversity.

Consultation

This project is still very much at the draft stage and we would like to hear from people what they think of the idea. One aspect of consultation is an open evening at Dinton Pastures on Thursday June 13 from 7pm to 9pm.

It will be an informal 'drop-in' evening without any formal presentations. We would be very pleased if people come along to find out more about what the project will involve. Several officers from the council will be available for detailed discussions.

We are keen to get input from people in Hurst, so if you cannot attend this evening or have any issues that you wish to discuss prior to this event, please contact Ian Gough, Technical Officer in any of the following ways, by e-mail, phone on 0118 974 xxxx, fax 0118 974 6401, or write a letter to:
