St Nicholas East Wall Good news and Bad!
We have now heard from English Heritage and they were happy with the work
carried out last year and have paid the remaining part of the development costs in
Phase 1. However, English Heritage requires further development work as the
recommendations made in Phase 1 were difficult to quantify and specify, making the
costings too vague. The Restoration team will have a meeting with them on site mid-
June to determine the developments required in order to re-apply for a grant. All this
will need to be agreed at the June PCC, which means a closing date for applications
of 30th June. We will keep you posted.
Hurst Brownies
So far this term two of our Brownies have taken part in the County AGM
entertainment, 12 have attended District Brownie revels on 15th May and 15 helped
run a games stall at the Christian Aid Coffee Morning on 22nd May. After half term
we have a District Camp Fire (on 11th June) and District Sports Day on 17th July to
look forward to. Next term we have the District swimming Gala and will be taking
part in FunDaze with South West Region to celebrate the 90th birthday of the
Brownies.
All the girls have earned their Cupboard Technology awards a special project set up
by South West Region.and Mary Langdown has recently received a certificate for
services to guiding in Berkshire. (Mary says that, without a super bunch of girls to
encourage her, she would not have had the honour!). The Brownies say goodbye to
Sheila Whittaker as Unit Helper at the end of term and she will be sorely missed. I am
pleased to report that Pippa Boyd has offered to help every other week would
anyone else like to come and help on alternate weeks?
The Hurst Rainbows also need help; they meet on Wednesdays from 5:156:15.
For further details, please contact Mary Langdown on 0118 934 xxxx.
Hurst Bowling Club
Sunday 16th May saw a glorious hot sunny afternoon for the open day at Hurst
Bowling Club. A number of ladies and a couple wishing to have a go at bowling
came along and also enjoyed home made biscuits and cakes to go with a cup of tea.
Many club members were on hand to provide a welcome and tuition in this idyllic
setting. Although the open day has now past, Hurst residents are welcome to come
along by prior arrangement at any time. Please visit www.hurstbowlingclub.org.uk
for contact details or telephone Ann Skidmore (Secretary) on 0118 934 xxxx.
