The Dragonfly Café opens at the Eco Centre, Dinton Pastures
The café building at Dinton Pastures Country Park has gone through a few changes recently and is
opening with a brand new name - The Dragonfly Café. This reflects the many species of
dragonfly in the Park.
The changes include the installation of a new wood burner and solar panels, a new patio and outdoor
area. Seven large umbrellas in the patio area will provide shelter from showers and sun. The menu
will include a wider selection of food and drink, with fresh produce from local farms and cakes from
local bakers.
In keeping with the Eco Centre status awarded to the café building in 2006 by the
ENCAMS
(formally the Tidy Britain Group), the changes add to the building's 'green' credentials.
As some of you may know, the Countryside Service has taken over management of the café facilities
at the Country Park as well as Hurst Golf course, in a bid to generate valuable income for the running
of our local parks and nature reserves. The contract for both cafés is with Edwards and Ward, who
also run the café at the Civic Offices in Wokingham. They have embraced our green ideas, which
have also been popular with public.
It's early days for the venture and staff at the Countryside Service are still learning how to make
improvements. Feedback from customers is always welcome. The project has benefited from the
support of local councillors, particularly Cllr Annette Drake, who has taken a keen interest in the
project's progress.
We look forward to seeing you at the Park this summer. Our usual walks and events are on offer.
The Dragonfly Café will be open from 10.00am until 5.00pm daily, so do come for coffee and cake
(our wheat-free carrot cake is well worth a try!) or stop for a meal at lunchtime, in a lovely outdoor
setting. For more information, telephone 0118 934 xxxx.
Hurst Morris People - HuMP
Morris Dancing is very much rooted in the community and HuMP is keen to carry on that tradition.
A lot of our performances take place around our base in Hurst village, in Berkshire and surrounding
counties. We dance the Cotswold Tradition and, in a typical season, perform at anything from village
fetes and carnivals to residential homes and schools! We also take part in major folk festivals outside
our region every year.
We meet on Thursday evenings, 8pm - 10pm at the Hurst Village Hall, School Road, Hurst.
Two Beginners/Open Workshops are being held on 20th and 27th September, 2007, 8pm-
10pm, Hurst Village Hall.
HuMP welcomes anyone who'd like to have a go at dancing or music!
Men and women welcome. It's free of charge and you'll enjoy it!
